The February/March months in Hawke’s Bay are noted for the large swell in visitors enjoying the many summer events. The highest profile of these events is the Art Deco Festival in Napier.
The Hastings Art Gallery presents an alternative look at the Deco era by exploring the flip-side, the rise of surrealism in New Zealand.

- I am a filmmaker and lecturer at the Department of Screen and Media Studies, The University of Waikato, where I was awarded a PhD in 2007 for my research into documentary and cultural memory. I specialize in teaching animation and digital media production, however my research interests include; East European animation, visual music, music video, animated documentary, cultural memory, cross-disciplinary media arts and surrealism.
